ELEKTR0BATH - No Title [Gates Of Hypnos - 0000]No Title is a twenty-minute slice of machine churn ‘n’ slicing sear bound walled noise from this Warsaw-based project. As with much of the scene’s output this comes in the form of digital download. Cover artwork we get a rather anti-art image of a half-screwed-up McDonald’s paper bag. Not sure what the meaning behind this is, but I guess it’s okay for what it is. The release appears on Poland’s Gates Of Hypnos, and can be downloaded here
The ELEKTR0BATH project began at the tail end of 2022, and has since put out a steady flow of releases- which are presently moving towards the twenty mark. I’ve now heard/ reviewed a few releases from the project- and you are always guaranteed with a fairly rewarding use of texture with its work.
The single self-titled track comes in at spot on the twenty-minute mark. The ‘wall’ is built around a constantly locked machine churn- which is slightly set back/ muffled in the mix. On top of this we find a feasting wash of static grain-which is added to by these sluggish slicing tones. At points, these slicing elements get so forward in the mix, that everything else is blocked out for a moment. At others, they are lazier in their feel- with (possible) shifts across the stereo channels occurring. The different speeds going on here create a nice feeling of disorientation- which pulls you deeper into the whole thing.
No Title is a short, but brutally entrancing example of the wall-form. With the different speed textures, and their (seeming) shift in the layers creating woozy disorientation, as well as drifts in & out intensity. Oh, and it’s nice to hear set industrial elements in a wall noise setting again. Roger Batty
