Ennaytch - Vacuum Cleaner Music For The Unsatisfied Housewife [Basement Corner Emissions - 2022]Here’s just shy of an hour’s worth of thickly roasting walled noise, that flirts and darts with occasional layer shifts 'n' textural deviation. Ennaytch is from Tucson, Arizona, and is seemingly a fairly new wall noise project, starting this year- with at present has eight releases to its name. Vacuum Cleaner Music For The Unsatisfied Housewife Vol 2: Disemboweling The Patriarchy is a digital single-track release on Portland’s Basement Corner Emissions. And as its title suggests is a follow-up to the first Vacuum Cleaner Music For The Unsatisfied Housewife- which also appeared on the same label. With the Bandcamp page quoting More angry housewife walling. Wear clean underwear. And 'In this chapter of our HNW saga, our housewife protagonist frees herself from her oppressive circumstance, in a most brutal manner.'
The single track here comes in at the 59.20 mark. The ‘wall’ is built around a constant and mid-paced mix of galloping roast ‘n’ low-key static clattering. Over this we get darting 'n'' shifting layers- sometimes these are jarring with a sudden one of tone breaks, though more often we find subtle shifting elements be it a more pronounced rattle or judder, sliding grain drag, or floating scrub. As the track progresses these shifts seemingly become more prevalent, and (possibly) more active towards the latter part of the piece. But as any wall fan knows- it’s possible many( though certainly not all) of these patterns or shifts could well be an illusion.
With this track I’m getting an almost soothing and comfy vibe, which goes against the theme- but I guess you get what you get, and one man's hypnotic wall gold, is another mans bland searing paint-drying slog. I’d say I enjoyed what we have here, and it rather reminded me of the dense, yet layer-active wall craft of saying someone like Burial Ground- which is of course a good thing.
It’s always wonderful to see new projects worshipping at the church wall noise- so I’ll most certainly be checking back with Ennaytch. And if you’re a fan of dense, yet at times layer-detailed walling, I’d say check this out too... Roger Batty
