Broken Cursór /Whore's Breath - Split [Stemms Audio - 0000]Here’s a walled noise split that highlights two different sides of the genre- from Indonesia’s Broken Cursór we have a slice of taunt ‘n’ feasting HNW, and from Ohio’s Whore's Breath stark ‘n’ ANW. This digital release runs at spot on the hour mark. Artwork wise we have what looks like a picture of hazed-in places rock work, with vertical black texts running alongside it. The release can be found & download here.
So first up we have the Broken Cursór track which is entitled “Illusi Dalam Harmoni”. This project from Jakarta, Indonesia has been active since 2021- racking up to date an impressive 45-plus release, which take in splits with the likes of Sado Rituals & Worship, as well as a few stand-alone releases. As far as I can recall this is my first taster of the project's work- and I must say I very much enjoyed what I heard. The track comes in a spot on the twenty-eight-minute mark, and is built around a tightly woven blend of chugging ‘n’ rumbling lows and thinner jittering ‘n’ rattling static bound mids. The textures are fed together in a nicely balanced, yet tight mix with each textures detail being heard well. Imagery wise it feels like being dragged along a slightly moss-lined road, as an antiquated water sprinkler evenly spurts out rust colour water on your chest…. an odd image I know, but that’s what I’m getting. The ‘wall’ kept my attention completely held thorough-out, with the blend/ mix bee rather distinctive.
Next, we, of course, have the Whore's Breath track “Cold Light”, which is most fitting name for this example barren ANW. This Cincinnati, Ohio project also started in 2021, and while its discography isn’t as large as Broken Cursór it must have twenty or so release in its back catalogue- not completely sure of the number as the projects discog listing is missing more than a few releases. I have heard quite a few of Whore's Breath, and always liked what I’ve heard, and track no exception. The spot-on thirty-two-minute track brings together a faint and light buffeting rumble- this is topped by a constantly rushing hiss. This ‘wall’ is way more eerier and starkly haunting than the first track- with imagery wise I’m getting a slow descent to the bottom of a grey and murky inland waterway, as you see strange darting shapes appearing on the rivers rubbish-strewn floor. The textures are nicely balanced, and the whole thing nicely pulls you into a starkly grim lull.
So, in conclusion, a most worthwhile wall noise spilt from these two projects- and if you enjoy both well made & even balanced HNW and AWN you’ll also find this something you’ll be needing to be check out forthwith.
