Extrema Ratio - A Dangerous Method [Alma De Nieto - 2021]A Dangerous Method is a manic 'n' often angered collision between bayed-to-shouted vocals, nastily glitching-to-hacking electronics, battering percussive attack, and screaming Avant jazz attack. This is a six-track CD debut from this Turin based three-piece- and if you enjoy intense-to-moodily seared genre collision, then this will grab you by the neck and give you a nice ‘n’ vigorous shake. For this release, the project features- Xlaidox- voice, effects, Alessandro Cartolari - sax, voice, Valdjau Katportha- electronics, Diego Rosso – drums, and boy do they put they all into their playing/ performance. The album sides in a fairly short thirty-five minutes mark- but I think that is just enough to batter the listener in a statisfuying manner.
We open with the fittingly titled “Naked Convulsion” where after a William S. Burroughs sample we find a blend of a baying ‘n’ honking horn work, cluttering-down-the stairs drums, electro bass stabs, waving glitches, and ranted male vocals. There is the sonic pile-up to spaced-out feel of “I B Indifference” which swings between glamouring Hardcore-meets- jazz horn screaming, and playful sax, loosely darting drums and croaked/ static crinkled vocals. With the album playing out with the bounding drums and waving honks of “Revolution” which features police siren loops ‘n’ searing brooding electronics, and angered megaphone yells.
If you are after some angered genre-blending, then I think you will find A Dangerous Method satisfyingly raging, and I see from the CD sleeve that they also play live- so I can imagine that would be even more intense. Head here to check out/ buy the album directly Roger Batty
