Bombshell - US2292387A [Ominous Recordings - 2019]Bombshell is a recent collaborative project that brings together two key figures from today’s US walled noise/ textured noise scene- Peter Keller, of projects such as Geißt and Condo Horror. And Scott Kindberg of She Walks Crooked, and Ginger Cortes. US2292387A is the second release from this new project- and it appeared in the form of either a c60 or digital download. The sound here is best described of as drone hazed industrial-focused wall matter- and while you can certainly hear traces of both parties sound here, on the whole, the sound presented on this release is distinct. The tapes cover has a decidedly 1940’s/ 1950’s vibe about it, as on the front cover we get a photo headshot of a wide-eyed and glamorous brunette woman. And on the inside cover, we get a picture of another brunette with test tubes, and what look like small cages. The red shelled cassette features black & white labels on each side. This tape appeared in an edition of twenty-three copies, but these are all sadly now sold out - so one's only option is the download.
The release features two-quarter of an hour tracks per side of tape- and first, up we have “After A Taste Of Stardom”- here we find a slightly stretched and buzzing noise drone, and this topped with a blend of rattling 'n' buffeting static haze. Together these elements create a feeling of sustained pull and push- which each element seemingly locked down in set raging-ness. Next “Everything Else Is Poverty” and we find a mixture of looped buzzing drone, repetitive machine-like hazing noise, and muffled juddering- it all creates this feeling vice-like tension, which is underfed by a semi sinister undertone of endless production unfold.
Flipping over to the second side- and first, we have “Desbrate Eyes, Full Of Shadows”- this is the more pared-back & washed-out of tracks here- as we find a blend of circular droning electro textures, with a layer of less defined clutter and sway. This track is ok, though felt a little similar to the proceeding two tracks. The tape is finished off with “The Heart Of Science, The Truth”- and we find a mix of a set roaring low, and this is added to by a mix of skittering grain wash ‘n’ haze- I love the feeling of tense and Airness here, and the pair keep you prefect held in their synthetic yet constricting drone wall grip.
US2292387A is a worthy wall-noise statement from this new collaborative venture between these two respected walled noise names. I’m not sure if it’s a one-off or not, but if there was another release from the project it be most interesting to here how they develop the fairly distinct and machine feed take on the wall form Roger Batty
