Bonini Bulga - Sealed [[Cyclic Law - 2018]Pär Boström returns with another solo project; this time under the moniker Bonini Bulga. More atmospheric and minimal than his Kammarheit project, Bonini Bulga's Sealed presents wonderfully mingling layers and often introspective synth drones. With the cooler weather approaching, Sealed is a great soundtrack to a very welcome season. Softly expanding and fluttering forth, Sealed takes its time from the onset and allows itself plenty of space in which to move, grow, shrink, and expand. While coming at each track with a minimal approach, each builds in its own right, and the added layers and textures keep the album from slipping into a minimalistic sonic abyss. Each of the eight songs on Sealed stands alone, but Pär Boström adds a touch of connectivity between each, be it through tones, structure, or similar oscillations. Whether lower and droning or higher and airy, the tonal approach on Sealed runs the gamut and keeps the tracks from melding together in a boring manner. This first offering from Bonini Bulga is very inspiring, and further releases of this sort would be very welcome.
Originally self released in 2017 on Pär Boström's Hypnagoga Press, Cyclic Law brings this contemplative piece to a wider audience in a lushly packaged, limited edition CD. A nicely juxtaposed companion piece to Pär Boström's Kammarheit project, Bonini Bulga is a slowly moving, well done bit of minimal electronics. With its softly flowing approach, this album is a great way to start a Fall day. Paul Casey
