Bruising Pattern - Life As Seen Through A Distorting Lens [HNW-Netlabel - 0000]Life As Seen Through A Distorting Lens is two track shot of ultra thick & brain churning walled noise from this Vienna based project. It comes in the form of a digital download, and is my first taste of the projects work- thanks for the recommendation from one of our Patrons for this. The two tracks are simply entitled Life As Seen Through A Distorting Lens Part I & II, and each comes in at spot on the twenty minute mark. I’ve only played this release via the labels bandcamp- so I can’t say if you get anything extra artwork wise with the downloaded version.
Part I is a wonderful dense, disorientating, and brutally bothersome track. It’s built around a selection of ill-defined & constantly searing textures- we have a deep judder ‘n’ blunt drone texture, a mesh of constantly descending jittering static, and a few rolling ‘n’ grinding sub-tones. Together these create a totally encasing & intensely seared example of HNW- with the elements wondering, merging and grinding into each other. So ones mind is constantly finding first one texture path & then the next, but never fully defining them due to the raw & extremely rough-shod way the elements are forced & crammed in together.
Part II is a prime example of crudely thick & bluntly choppy wall-matter. At it’s centre we get a slurred & muffled low-end chopper like texture- this is blended with dense hacking textures, which are surrounded by a mesh of crawling stabs, glitch bound static crinkles, and thin grainy jitter sweeps. The ‘wall’ feels akin to trudging through an endless blocky & murky video screen landscape- with both ones sonic sensor & limbs get bogged down by the sluggish & muffled weight ‘n’ trudge of the whole thing.
Life As Seen Through A Distorting Lens is a most satisfying slab of brain drilling wall-matter. Thanks to our Pateron Ben Rehling for suggesting it, and I very much looking forward to checking out more of Bruising Pattern's work in the near future. If you’d also like to make suggestion on what we review on M[m] or any of the other perks we offer- please head over to our Pateron page here.
