Execution Support Act - Death Charge [Der Bünker Records - 2010]

“Death Charge” was the first release to appear from London base Hal Hutchinson's nihilistic HNW project that’s obsessed with capital punishment, human torture and Anti-humanist ideology.

On offer here is a c10 cassette tape that features one track per side- “Death Charge pt 1 & pt 2”. Side ones track starts off with whooshing ‘n’ grimly whirling downward spiral of noise tone- this gives one the feeling of being in vast sink & been sucked with all the faeces and waste. This whooshing ‘n’ whirling element is replaced here and there by, more judder based texturing; but mostly this track is fairly fixed in it’s structure. All in all it’s an adequate enough slice of nasty, rapid and grim ‘wall-making’- the only thing that lets it’s it down somewhat is the muffled ‘n’ low production…it all just sounds too quiet and rather flat.. when it should be face ripping loud.

Side two’s track is built around a roaring, tearing and slightly balance throwing ‘wall’ of juddering ‘n’ rolling noise textures- it brings to mind been on the deck of a wind and storm lashed boat, and your barely able to stand-up. The production seems a little louder on this track, but it’s still fairly muffled and low. This side is my favourite of the two sides, as it almost makes you feel a little queasy by the shifting and unblancing way Hutchinson has built the ‘wall’.

So this is certainly a worthy and opening shot from this grim and nasty HNW project- I just wish the production had being less quiet ‘n’ muffled, and more violent ‘n’ loud.
