Be Maledetto Now! - 1 [Boring Machines - 2009] | Be Maledetto Now! are an Italian duo who make wonderfully hypnotic, often eerily & haunted harmonic space bound analogue snyth scapes. This twelve inch is part one of their first full lenght debut album with part two coming in the form of a cd. The projects sound is often quite stripped & lo-fi in it’s feel with only one or two layers of synth texture or sound going on at one time, which adds nicely to the melancholic, lost & eerier space feel of the tracks. On offer here are two seven minute plus tracks on side one & then you flip over to a seventeen minute track that takes up the whole of side two. I guess comparison wise this sound a bit like a more stripped early Tangerine Dream mixed with 70’s analogue synth sci-fi movie soundtracking, through the last track does have slightly more modern electrioncia feel to it in places. The tracks are often quite harmonically memorable & eerier drifting along in a highly atmospheric & often hypnotic manner; the pace is mainly kept fairly lo-key to sluggish mid-pace. There are some slight rhythmic elements present in most of the tracks here but these are mainly taken in by the slow spacey stabs & blips of the keyboards. Each track is made-up of weaving synth textures, all manner of lo-fi blips & noises, some treated guitar elements and that’s about it. All told a very enjoyable, consistent & atmospheric shot of analogue based synth music with a distinctive melancholic sci-fi edge to it. Roger Batty
