Column One - Dream Time [90 % Wasser - 2005]

Dream Time sees German experimental collective Column One create another very thematically based album that picks distinct musical genre traits to paint and put across its theme. With the albums theme is sex and how it’s used to often sell and promote anything and everything in often very dodgy and sleazy manner.

The collective  boiling up an often very laid back yet perverse and sleazed  mixture of sampled easy listening groove, perverted jazz colours & sleazed soul hazes with touches electroncia, sleazy pop and peverse sound scaping, as well as lots of sexlized film samples and moans ‘n’ groans. The album mangers to drift along both mellowing you out yet at the same time often disturbing you too- giving one the feeling of  dirty & guilty pleasure which is exactly what the project is all about. As with all of the collectives work the packaging and presentation is a big part of the project too with the cd coming in a glossy oversized folder  with inside two booklets bringining together examples of often disturbing sexualized advertising campaigns that sometimes use children to sell their wares, as well as a few examples of the collectives own disturbing  collage work. And details of each tracks origins and it’s year of conception as the album brings together pieces created over a ten year period from 1994 to 2004.

On the whole another highly creative, thought provoking and distinct work from the collective which only really falls down slight towards the end with the lengthy use of Germany language based TV shows and films samples which means little or nothing to none German speakers.
