Raté - Anti-France Vaincra ↙↙↙ [Self release - 2026]Anti-France Vaincra ↙↙↙ is a nearly hour-long slab of doomily purring 'n' churning walled noise from this French project. The track has a decidedly dense and suffocating presence- with a fixed and unforgiving focus. This is a self-released affair. For the cover art, we have a picture of a mass of similar coloured rocks- at points, I’m sure I can make out animal faces and shapes within the mass, though this may or may not be a visual trick. The release can be found here.
The single self-titled track rolls in at forty-nine minutes and one second. The ‘wall’ is constructed around a constantly rolling purr/ billowing bass fork, a selection of mid-range rattles ‘n’ churns, with swirling 'n' steam-hissing subtones. It feels akin to being stuck in some high-rise-sized industrial mixer- that just churning on and on in the pressing, sour oil-scented, and near airless darkness.
Bordeaux-based Raté has been active since 2024- pretty much put out something every few weeks. In the past, I’d enjoyed much of their output, but I’ll have to admit that for the last three to four months, I’ve been somewhat let down/ felt the quality had slipped, feeling the releases were either cliched or just generally underwhelming. That is why I’m happy to report Anti-France Vaincra ↙↙↙ finds the project back on a good track- as the ‘wall’ is fairly original, with a great feeling of pressing 'n' heavy denseness.
