EKG & Giuseppe IeIasi - Group [Formed.Records - 2007]

Group’s take on audio discomfort and 4am fear is a mix of; improvised textures, weird glicthy ambient dread, noise rumbles and strange/disorientating source recordings, dark jazz often harmonic tones, drone textures & sudden rhythmic edges. All  really stir up one nightmarish hour of audio discourse that drops you in some very atmospheric, strange and fear inducing places.

Through out the element of surprise and tension is kept on a knifes edge- you don’t know what will suddenly appear,  swamp you, or go for your wind pipe. As the languid and  often  musty pace keeps you on tender hooks, never letting you feel conformable  or relaxed in your audio surroundings.  Analogue electronics curl into organic instruments like piano, Oboe, trumpet and English horn, weird and edge ‘what the hell is that sound’ source elements appear. The use of shifting around the  stereo channels is often chilling effective when played on head phones giving you the feeling of  either someone’s breathing down your neck, or your been followed,or you’ve finally lost your marbles- there are some really great moments  mind screwing going on here & I strongly advise to play this straight headed.

For once you can’t judge an album by it’s cover as the rather nice light and arty minimalist cover suggests complete the opposite to the audio tensions and sweat drench edginess that a lies in wait. To hear samples, find out more and buy direct walk through this seemly innocent doorway
