People Like Us & Ergo Phizmiz - Perpetuum Mobile [Soleilmoon Recordings - 2007]Perpetuum Mobile is full to its quirky, bizarre and sometimes tiring brim with kids show like looped brass tunes, strummed Hawaiian guitar waltz’s, stuck cracking piano loops and all manner of snatched easy listing audio chesse. With all manner rhythmic elements, plundetronics and surreal advert or stage show singing over the top. This collaboration is trying to mix pludertronic elements into more condusive and pop like song forms & structures. It works to mix results some of the tracks being a fine mix of quirky tunefulness with puzzling and amusing voices/sampled sound elements that seem mainly scorched from the 50’s. But other tracks long out stay their welcome at knock towards the 8 minute mark, with just not enough variations or movement in the sound to keep your attention, often to be become very grinding annoying, really the whole album could been trimmed by at least 15 to 20 minutes. Never the less this is a valiant attempt to try and move Plundedronics albums beyond a play once or twice novelty bracket. It’s presented in a distinctive arty oversized Silkscreen printed folder. I can see this appealing to fans of NWW more playful work and lovers sound element collages with a distinctive bizarre jester air about them. Roger Batty
