Burning Swallows - The Illusion of Centers And Contested Terrains [Kovorox Sound - 2007]Burning Swallows is a new collaboration between Lea Cumming(Kylie Minoise, Opaque and kovorox Sound lable mainman) & John Cromar(Noma, Opaque). It offers up one near on 40 minute track of growing and surrounding suffocating guitar and electronics torture. From the outset the pair slowly press down on your windpipe tightening and tightening their grip as the track progresses, not letting you grasp for breath the track slips away. Its starts with a slow emerging sinister and oppressive guitar drone/ feedback haze, which bit by bit grows louder and louder. Akin to the feeling starting to panic more and more in a maze that you cant find you way out of, it just seems to be getting hotter and hotter and more airless, as more layers of sound are added on. At about the 19 minute mark it forces your teeth back into your mouth with throbbing and grim hits. At around the 30 minute mark this high pitched feedback whine is added in making you feel like you won’t be able to bear it any longer. A rewarding long form guitar and electronic drone/noise choking. With my only criticism been, that I felt the start build-up could have been shorted a little bit, as it does seem to take quite a long time to rise. Roger Batty
