Emma-Lynn - Self Titled [ Dying Monolithic HNW - 2026]Going from Emma-Lynn’s bandcamp, this is a recently formed project from Untah, with this release & one other to its name. This is around a twenty-five-minute ep, takes in three tracks that sit in the more weathered ‘n’ hope rattling side of the walled noise genre. This version of the release appears on the recently started Dying Monolithic HNW and is presented as a digital download. Artwork-wise we have a stark landscape picture, which takes in a mountain, a barren beach, and a waterway with a single long-legged bird drinking from it. The release can be found here
According to the releases page, it's a sonic exploration of panic attacks, inescapable emotional numbness, and the gnawing and seemingly everlasting desire to self-mutilate. And yes, sure you can certainly get a vibe of troubling undercurrents here, below the grimly ‘n’ grey walls
First up, we have the wonderful entitled “Bedrot”- this is the longest of the three tracks at just under the fourteen-minute mark. The ‘wall’ brings together a thick blend of low-end purr/ hack, with this just heard in the foreground, a constant rattling junk metal-like tone. The track presents us with an effective blend of suffocating intensity and bleak monotony.
Next is “HumanMelt”- this nearly seven-minute and twenty-second track blends chopping/ murky bass tone, with cluttering hiss. There is some slight shift/deviation to the two main patterns here, but nothing moves terribly far.
Lastly, we have “Creaking Springs”, which is the shortest of the three tracks at nearing the three-minute forty mark. This ‘wall’ is a set/ rapid mix of rattling bass bay/ battering buftinig. There’s a nicely pressing/ airless quality to the ‘wall’, which resolves things in a hopeless/ unrelenting manner.
In the end, this isn’t a half-bad opening shot from Emma-Lynn, which certainly shows promise for the future. If you dig troubled/ hope battering walling, give this a try. Roger Batty
