Edo Žuđelović / Koobaatoo Asparagus - Split [Gates Of Hypnos - 2025]Here’s a split that gives us two sides of the wall noise coin. From Bar, Montenegro’s Edo Žuđelović, we get constantly piling-on & hiss-bound ANW. And from California’s Koobaatoo Asparagus, we get thick bass bound ‘n’ bone grinding HNW. Each track runs at around the twenty-minute mark. This is a digital-only release put out by Poland’s Gates Of Hypnos. For the cover artwork, we get a simple yet effective overlay of blue static on top of grey/black static. The release can be found here.
So first up, we have “PWR” Edo Žuđelović track. This is built around a tense, set, and taut mix of choppy/ cluttering bass tones, steady hissing flow, and juddering crispness. These are woven together to create a ‘wall’ that is strangle soothing, yet at the same time crudely coarse- being both soothing yet constriction. I recall I’d heard some of Žuđelović material in the past, but it’s probably been for a few years- all told, this isn’t a bad track, which kept me nicely locked in.
Next, we have “Static Control” from long-running/ ultra prolific Koobaatoo Asparagus. Here we find a dense & set ‘wall’ of fridged textures- bringing together a rolling ‘n’ purr bass tone, a constant windswept billow, and cluttering/ buzzing subtones. It feels the sonic equivalent of being run over by a coal-powered massive roller- crushing everything in its path.
As splits go, there is decent, with the two tracks standing well on their own, but also complementing each other. Always nice to hear new work from Koobaatoo Asparagus, and hopefully get more from Mr Žuđelović Roger Batty
