Christmas Decorations - Communal Rust [Community Library - 2007]

Communal Rust offers up a quirky mellow and often hypnotic collection of guitar and electronics landscapes. Which much like the collage cover artwork seems to whisk the listener off to strange and distant lands.

It all starts off fairly upbeat with upstage the drips, who’s twitching and bubbling soundscape  is made up of blues/ Hawaiian like guitar folds, harmonica rattle and alien electro bird sounds. It brings to mind a more guitar touched version of some of the tracks from Black dices Creature Comforts album with it’s quirky use of sound jungle sounds, but this feels more mellow than the hectic charms of Creature Comforts. As the album progress it seems to slow and hover more, concentrating more on rich ambient guitar and electronics structures. All the sounds smoothly gliding from ones speakers, with just a touch of awkward glichtness, but never enough to take away from the picture book dreamy soundworld feel. The guitar work really is very impressive though out going from sounding wishful and delicate, to spacey and droning, to quirky and playful or timeless and mystical, with some wonderful supporting work from various Peddles and electronics, and some rather nice tranquil heat-hazed flute work also appearing late on in the albums life

A very pleasant exotic and magical sound journey that starts lifting ones sprits then smoothes you back down. A captivating richly detailed and soothing collection of inventive and varied soundworlds.
