Burial Garden / Olion - Split [Untitled Record Label - 2024]Here we have a wall noise split- with each party offering up an around twenty-five-minute track. Serbian’s Burial Garden presents us with an example of continual feasting walling with an ambient undercurrent. And Poland’s Olion severs up a slab of searing drone-based fare. The release appears on UK’s Untitled Record label in the form of a digital download. For the cover artwork, we have what looks like an abstract & earthy painting made up of densely dabbed green, brown, and grey colours. The release can be downloaded here
So first up we have the Burial Garden track- this is entitled “12th wall 7.17.24”. This is a densely hazed mix of revolving grain grit, lo-fi churning rumble, and gentle chiming/ glowing mid to high-pitched ambient drift. There is a rather organic/ almost crunch ‘n’ munch meets brightly simmering in a summer haze feel to the ‘wall’. Surprisingly for a wall noise- I found it all decidedly positive and cosy, though others could take it as a more dreamy vibe.
Next we of course have the Olion track entitled “7.25.24”. Here we find a mixture of lightly cluttering rumble, steady mid-pace pelt, and choppy low-end drone matter. Where the first track was almost glowingly dense- this track feels more grey & weathered in its attack, though there is a subtle hint of ambience to its make up too.
So all in all this is a most worthwhile wall split- with each track presenting its own take on walling, but they nicely complement each other too Roger Batty
