Bundy & The Wolf Man: Closer Than We Thi - Bundy & The Wolf Man: Closer Than We Think ( DVD) [WowNo - 2024]Here’s a 2023 documentary that compares charming American serial killer Ted Bundy to the Universal Horror’s The Wolfman. The film runs at the hour mark- being a good/ even blend of news footage, film clips, and stock footage. Here from WowNow is a barebones region-free DVD release. Bundy & The Wolf Man: Closer Than We Think was written, directed, and narrated by Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania BC Fourteen. To date, he has twenty-two features/ documentaries to his name. These go from revenge horror- thriller New Terminal Hotel (2010), to female pro wrestling doc Go Big Or Go Home(2018), though to animated sci-fi Bigfoot vs Krampus(2021).
The film moves between following Budy’s timeline- moving from his birth in Nov 1946, with no clear father to his exaction in January 1989. And looking at Universal's 1941 film The Werewolf, lycopene legends, and related. Over the top, we get BC Fourteen’s narration- this is clear, largely well-flowing, and engaging.
The thing I found the most interesting as a true crime fan- was the great selection of news footage, and interviews with Bundy himself over the years. It is fascinating to see the original reports of his crimes, and of course, his arrogate/ego-fed demeanour in interviews.
Fourteen's comparison between the Werewolf and Bundy is certainly thought-provoking, and well presented. The detailing of the Werewolf side of things is done equally well. I think the only real issue here are some of the ill-fitting off-shelf stock footage- which doesn’t fit the films tone, period, or just feels a little lazy- at these points, the doc comes off like a bad YouTube doc- but thankfully these are fleeting.
The DVD is totally barebones with not even a proper menu page. It would have been nice to get an interview with Fourteen, and maybe a selection of more news footage. As this is a recent documentary- the picture is good & clean.
All in all Bundy & The Wolf Man: Closer Than We Think is an interesting/ worthy documentary – which puts across its points well, and of course it’s great to get to see the news footage/ interviews with the charming monster himself. Roger Batty
