Ennaytch - Vacuum Cleaner Music For The Solitary Psychonaut V [Basement Corner Emissions - 2024]Here is a recent four-track release from Tucson, Arizona’s Ennaytch. The sound here blends walled noise with ambience, for a decidedly entrancing & rewardingly detailed hour-long release. The album is a digital-only affair- it appears on Portland’s Basement Corner Emissions. Cover artwork wise we get an illustration of a red misty forest full of dancing witch-like figures, with a black-suited & shade-wearing woman holding either a crossbow or gun standing between them. It can be heard/ downloaded here.
This is the fifth Ennaytch release I heard/ reviewed thus far, and I must say that it stands as one of its most consistent & rewarding- with each of the four tracks offering up their own rewards. We move from the opening track “Bad Wishes, Bad Witches” which brings together a steady feed of scaping, hacking & juddering texturing, with a distant low-end purr and a ghostly hovering harmonic ambient undercurrent.
Next is “Ladies Of The Darkest Nights” which finds a purring ‘n’ rattling wall noise net set over a mix of sparking sweep, and constantly glowing tone loop. With later on a more buffing/wind-straining texturing was added into great effect later.
The last two tracks are “Large Scale Acid Racket” and “Ritual Murder Cop Killer”. The former is all about meaty electro grind & purr, watery judder, and distant warbling harmonic haunted-ness. And the latter brings together taut weaves of jittering ‘n’ hissing texture, with light industrial tolling, beaded fuzzing, and a simmering feeling of disquiet.
As a release, Vacuum Cleaner Music For The Solitary Psychonaut Volume Three: Satanic Witch Crime Syndicate certainly highlights Ennaytch’s creativity, and ability to select rewarding & at points curious blends of textures/ ambience. Each of the tracks hit around the fifteen-minute mark, and none of them ever outstayed their welcome. As I said earlier some of the best work I’ve heard from this project, and all around a wholly engaging crossbred between walling & ambience. Roger Batty
