Earthflesh - Light-Matter-Spirit [Self release - 2024]Light-Matter-Spirit sits somewhere between rattling static bound walled noise and weathered/ greyly oppressive drone matter. This single nearly forty-minute track is a digital self-release from Sweden’s Earthflesh. For the artwork, we have a rather grim, shadowy & monochrome picture of a volcanic hillside. The downable release can be found just here.
Earthflesh has been active since 2010- releasing sixteen releases to date- taking in both stand-alone & splits. These like much of the wall noise scenes output come in the form of digital releases- though the project has one or two CDR or cassette releases.
The single self-titled track comes in at just shy of the forty-minute mark. It’s built around a blend of murky/ wonkily wavering drone matter- set back from this we have a mesh of rattling, at points almost teeming static grain. The drone element feels rather baying, yet at the same time ill-defined, often with an air of grey malevolence to its attack- and at points I’m sure I’m hear very faint moans, and wails blended into the track's mass. Though how real these are I’m unsure.
The whole thing rather brought to mind either staring into the tarry solid black of an abyss- where you sure to can make shifts and darts in the darkness. Or visiting a deep rain-lashed pothole- where local legends talk about it being the gateway to hell itself, where the tormented wail on mass.
If you’re after getting well and truly engulfed by droned-out walled noise Light-Matter-Spirit will certainly do the trick. Roger Batty
