Concrete Crusher - Here Lies [Gates Of Hypnos - 2024]Here Lies is a very thick & truly compacting slab of walled noise. The single-track release slides in just over the hour mark, and it remains both seriously pressing & weighty throughout. This is a digital-only release- which appears on Poland’s Gates Of Hypos. Artwork wise we have a monochrome cover- which is either a clenched fist, or a tightly curled up body seen from the side. The album can be found here.
Going from Discogs this is Concrete Crushes' 8th release- with all its other releases appearing on the Indonesian label Mindblasting Netlabel- so I guess that is the country of origin for the project.
The single track rolls in at the one hour and six minutes mark. The ‘wall’ is made up of a constantly rolling & rapid judder- this edged by a muffled bass subtone hack ‘n’ churn. The whole thing feels like you are being continually fed through a huge set of ageing industrial rollers. There is most certainly an air of oppressive drudgery to the whole thing- yet I found it all engaging/ entracing enough- finding myself firmly locked in until the tracks end, an hour & six minutes later.
Here Lies sits at the more droned out and intense end of the wall noise genre. I'm getting some weighty HNW old-school vibes, but equally the way the whole thing rather blurs seems slightly more modern. So I’ll certainly sample some more of the projects work, when I’m in the mood for this type of thing….and there is no doubt its name is most fitting!. Roger Batty
