Go to the Current 93/OM website  Current 93/OM - Inerrant Rays Infallible Sun (Blackship Shrinebuil [Durtro/Jnana - 2006]

A stoner like group made up of member of legendary doom band sleep don’t seem at face value to be a particularly good choice for a collaboration with Current 93.

However on this two track long playing single Current 93 produce a track that continues on from the musical and lyrical themes from the title track from Black ships ate the sky. Grinding repetitive guitar riffs and bagpipe courteously of a lady called Catriona Macaffer. The Bass rises and falls like a hammer as a simple melody from the pipes meanders behind. It sets the stage for a typically hysterical vocal from Tibet that includes references to Pol Pot the Queen and bizarrely Reese Witherspoon.  Despite the musical and spiritual journey that Tibet has been on with Current 93 over the last fifteen years this track harks back to grinding industrial metal pieces the like of which were found on releases like 1990s Horsey. A piece that looks both backwards and forwards to apocalypse.

The track by OM titled Rays of the sun/To the Shrinebuilder doesn’t sound out of place with the Current 93 piece at all. The repetitive guitar riffs and chanted vocals share much in common with Current 93s recent material. I doesn’t have the edge of time drama that Tibet injects into his music but the shamanic delivery of the vocals does draw you in. Certainly an unexpected meeting of minds but one that would benefit from further exploration.
