Coffin Vomit - Glovejob [Mima Kass - 2023]Here’s a rather gnarly ‘n’ nastily themed walled noise release from Norway’s Coffin Vomit. The C60/ digital release features two around thirty-minute tracks- which both nicely lock down into grimy ‘n’ grim wall texturing. The release features a fittingly unpleasant cover picture of a hand with a ripped latex glove on- the hand is covered in blood & other matter, and really is most gut-wrenching- probably best not to think where this originates from. The album was released on Sweden’s Mima Kass- the tape version came in an edition of twelve copies, with a few still left. So, to find out more drop by here.
So first up we have “Glovejob I”. This is built around a blend of sluggishly ‘n’ cluttering hack, grainy chop, and light hiss. The hack is rather hazy & mid- ranged- this is nicely surrounded by chop ‘n’ hiss. With the whole thing rather bringing to mind a decidedly pained, sweaty, and exhausting process- which I guess ties into the release theme. As the ‘wall’ progresses you keep thinking it may slow, or maybe even stop- but of course, it does keep a set pace/ selection of patterns throughout.
Next, we have “GloveJob II”- and here things turn very nasty, a lot more murky, and generally sonically weighty. The ‘wall’ is built around a deep semi-formed purr- this is surrounded by this wet sounding locked squelching texture- which is edged with these smaller marble knocking/ bedded sub-tones. And with this ‘wall’ one conjures up most unpleasant imagery when in the context of the theme- I won’t detail what is running through my mind, as we like to keep our reviews relatively clean/ non-porn based.
In conclusion, I was impressed with both tracks here- they work well together, and are spot-on with the releases theme. I believe this is my first taster of Coffin Vomit- it’s been active since 2018, with coming on for ten or so releases to its name- and I’ll most certainly be checking out some of its back catalogue on the strength of Glovejob.
