Vacuous Depths - Corporal Humiliation [Blood Harvest - 2022]Making their debut on Blood Harvest, Tampa, Florida's Vacuous Depths unleash the depraved death metal madness with Corporal Humiliation. After a well received demo and some serious line up changes, the new trio hit the studio to record this blasting slab of heavy, vile death. Although hailing from Tampa, Vacuous Depths channels classic sounds from scenes the world over, truly making this album their own. Fast and furious, the ten tracks on Corporal Humiliation come in at just about 34 minutes, leaving the listener thoroughly chuffed and equally as worn out from shredding. Heavy, low, and vile, Vacuous Depths not only summons the early 90's Tampa death demons, but also calls upon the sounds of the legendary Scandinavian scenes. With this thickly distorted guitar tone leading the way, the band fills in the surrounding ether with fat bass lines and tight, propulsive drumming. The vocals are throaty and deep, but fairly far back in the mix. This works pretty well as there is quite a bit of 3D space for the band to move about in. Buzzsaw riffs add thickness and dimension to Corporal Humiliation, and are arguably the main attraction. Being the focal point of the album, one can then ride the riffs through some interesting song structures and straight-up, brazen brutality.
Five years after their six-song demo, Vacuous Depths drop their debut, Corporal Humiliation, on Blood Harvest. Ten depraved death metal tracks, these Tampa terrors bring some fist-pumping, head-banging action. Brutal and blistering, Corporal Humiliation is an excellent debut album and sets the stage for a long and vile career. Roger Batty
