Occlusion - 56(21 Juin) [Self release - 2022]

Occlusion is a French wall noise project who have a rather original/ if a rather stomach-churning theme to all of their release, and that is medical operations. With each of their releases featuring a still from( what I’m presuming are) real operations. 56(21 juin)  is a digital self-released affair, which features a single twenty-one-minute example of spluttering ‘n’ sucking wall-craft, which prefect fit its theme.

As with all of this projects out put the cover features an operation picture- and for this one, we have a picture of what looks like an open stomach with a tube, thin threads attached to it- though I’ve not analysed it too closely. As I do find such pictures do rather turn my stomach…I’ve been a gore/ extreme horror fan for many years, but I just can’t handle real gore. Anyway it can be found here

Occlusion is from Alès in the south of France- and going by their bandcamp page have been going since 2015, having released themselves fifty-six digital releases, as well as a few digital releases on other labels. Otherwise, I can’t find much information about the project, and as far as I can recall this is my first ever taster of their work.

The single track here is entitled “179” and rolls in at the 21.06 mark. The ‘wall’ is built around an even blend of slight rip ‘n’ tear bound low-end judder, static spluttering, and a few smaller jumping static grains. Along the track's length, we do get a few breaks in the small more manic texturing- with just the low end left on its own, but these are brief, and within no time we’re back into tense and taunt texturing terroirty.  The ‘wall’ really does sound akin to that of an operation- and oddly it is weird rather compelling in its tightly bucking weave of noise.

It's always nice to discover a new wall noise project, and certainly, Occlusion is doing something a little different with both its theme/ and use of sound here. I’ll certainly be checking out more of this French project's work, though I don’t think I’ll ever get comfortable with operation pictures/ footage…so maybe I’ll just give a cursory glance at the artwork, then play the 'walls' with the bandcamp minimized 😉.
