Ichion - Ichion - One [Audiobulb Records - 2022]

Ichion is the brainchild of Jason Hobman, a sound artist based in Tokyo, Japan. The project takes a sophisticated approach to the most minimal side of techno, refined and arranged as perfectly as a spider web.

Throughout this nine-track digital release, there is deep flirting going on here between techno and IDM (intelligent dance music), a cerebral, introspective and electronically uplifting manifestation, a multi-dimensional experience.

Think a somewhat desaturated, low (or lower) profile version of, let’s say, Autechre, that keeps a post-Kraftwerk or post-Coil (“The Snow” era) aesthetic minus the vocals. Each of the nine tracks utilises a single sound, thus, each sample is being lengthily manipulated into a solid piece.

Tiny beats, tiny crossovers between rhythms, strong basslines and ambient-ish backgrounds, all of them nodded back to the 90’s school of sound- the era of transgression in the electronic spectrum. I cannot stress enough the minimalistic usage of the raw materials that led to Ichion - One, so fragile and yet so vibrant and crystal clear.

What I love the most about this album is its futuristic and yet retro style in the sound and conception. A flashback to a non-specified time where the knowledge of its topography doesn’t really matter, making Ichion - One a universal release. I really hope that will find its way soon for a proper

physical release. Until then grab a digital copy from  here and get submerged in its beauty.
