Vomir - Untitled [Serious Business - 2019]From a few years back here we have a mini-CDR taking in a short-yet-nihilistically seared example of the walled noise form from Vomir- the French black bag wearing master of the unmoving and battering HNW. The release appears on Florida’s Serious Business, which focus on release noise business card CDRs-it's run by long-term noise scenester Joe the Stache(Hoggle, Pig Shrapnel, Extreme Chafing). The grey sprayed and white text stamped CDR comes presented in a clear see-through mini jewel case. This features a glossy double-sided inlay that takes in grey textures, and grey/ white surrounding texts. This release came in a numbered edition of thirty copies, and as of this review, the label has copies available- to find out more drop by here.
The single untitled track on offer here comes in at the five minute and thirty-two-second mark. And what we find here is a mid-paced rolling, though slightly uneven bass judder. Slightly distances from this we have a blunt drifting billow, and way off in the background I can just make out a pinched and churning mid-toned swirl, which has a subdued industrial vibe to its make-up. The ‘wall’ feels both sludgy and weighty, yet at the same time interestingly layered in its presentation- which gives the whole thing a feel of pressing grimness, and the approaching unknown- all making for a very ominous yet hope crushing wall. Its length is also an odd positive, as you just start to fully get a feel/ understanding of its structure/ flow- it suddenly cuts out, so you of course play it again.
In finishing this is a nicely presented business card CDR, with the featured track being a worthy example of brutal rolling, yet atmospherically foreboding wall craft from Vomir. Certainly a well worth tracking down release, before all the copies disappear. Roger Batty
