Punishment Routine is a forty-two-minute example of ‘wall’ craft-which is crushingly dense and strangely grinding in its attack.  The release recently appeared as a digital download on Poland’s Gate of Hypos.

The releases cover features a white wall drawing of a yelling and angered man, with a palm tree in the foreground. So, I’m guessing it’s from some tropical country. The download can be found here. 

Sado Rituals is the project of Polish noise maker Przemysław Sadox Grochowsk- who also runs  Gate of Hypos label.  The project has been active since 2019 with its output being a mix of harsh noise, dark drone, and HNW/ ANW-  so far putting out coming around the 100 releases mark.

The single track comes in at the 42.21 mark- and it brings together a thick and compacted blend of rattling pipe like bass meaty-ness, a selection of creaking and knocking tones, and scrubbing mid-range mesh of shaking descent. Together these create a feeling of rewarding unbalancement, as one’s mind follows first one then another one of the layers- and as the layers are so interweaved together, your mind starts playing tricks on you, and we get some wonderful sonic illusions occurring.

This is the third or possibly fourth release Sado Rituals I’ve heard, and I must say I’ve been largely impressed by everything I’ve heard, as with the projects other work Grochowsk puts time and effort into selecting rewarding and fairly distinctive textures. So, Punishment Routine is another worthy release from the Sado Rituals.
