White Slaver (aka White Slavers) is a mid-1970’s example of light roughie hardcore. The film is largely set on a boat with competently enough filmed fleshy action, rock bottom at points grim production values, and vague stabs at a human-smuggling plotting. From the guys at Impulse Pictures, here’s a recent region free DVD release of the film.

As with many hardcore films over the years, who directed 1974’s White Slaver is unknown, as are some of the cast.  Though a few of the small cast are named- we have blond and large breasted Devon Mayer, as one of the slaves- she in total had fourteen credits between the year 1970-79, taking in Master's Degree in Feminine Sexual Liberation (1971),  Midnight Hard (1971),  French Heat (1975), and Los Vegas Wives (1979). There are the two male captures- the first is  Bill Scott, he has sixteen credits between the years of sixteen credits- going from Pit Of Perversion (1971), Brute Therapy (1971), The 3 Phases Of Eve (1972), and Flaming Youth (1972).  The second is Jim Mayer- who had fifteen credits to his name between 1970- 79, with many of the same titles as Devon's- so I guess they may have been husband and wife team?!

The film kicks off with our two captors taking two white bagged bodies below deck in a small boat- then we get around five minutes of shaky footage of the boat sailing out to sea with the backdrop of distant jazz library music. Then we go bellow deck- with both of the bodies uncovered in one we of course have Devon, and the other is a rather sad looking and lank brunette. First to get attention by one of the captors is the brunette- and here we get the most pronounced roughie elements, as (initial) she seems fairly upset/ pushing against what’s going on- but in time we get run of the mill hardcore. And this is when we get introduced to the films most memorable character- which is the gangs leader, a larger middle-aged woman with big black hair, heavy eye make-up, and a few amusing lines- we get introduced to her swinging a beer and touching her self in a cabin next door to where the main action is going on. Moving back to the main room/ action, and Devon’s up next for the attention of one of the captors, and we also get the gang leader coming into having some woman & woman action with the brunette. The film unfolds with various encounters between the five actors- and along the way, we get very brief darts of storyline, with a rather hammily dramatic resolve.

The film runs just under the hour mark, with the below deck footage being filmed with shaky/ at points stark lighting.  As already mentioned, the fleshy action/ encounters are largely of the standard hardcore variety- it’s all well enough captured, aside from the lighting, and I’d say if you like your sleaze actress a bit more well-proportioned you’ll could well find appeal here. As a roughie/ formal film, it’s not great- with the initial encounter with the brunette, and the gang’s leader being the only notable elements.  All in all, it’s down to what you looking for/ expecting.

Moving onto this new DVD, and it’s a region free affair. The scan is damaged, but clear enough for a low grade 70’s film stock. The only extras here are three seven-minute 70’s loops. So a fair bare-bones affair, but that’s the case with most of Impulse Pictures releases.

In finishing it’s great to see Impulse Pictures digging into the sleazy grindhouse depths again to release White Slaver- and as I said early it depends on what your after, on how much you’ll enjoy/ get from this.
