Le Banbole DI Velluto - Ankle Socks Study I (Toxic Obsession) [Archivio Audio Anonimo - 2021]Ankle Socks Study I (Toxic Obsession) is the first release from Le Banbole DI Velluto in a few years. It’s one of the walled noise projects of swiss based Anto- most known for sonically active and kinky fetish focused wall project Anonymous Masturbaudioum. Le Bambole DI Velluto( English translation The Velvet Dolls) has been active since the year 2015, to date releasing ten albums and one digital release. As far as I can gather/ recall, the project sound is very fixed, dense and formal wall noise craft.
This small numbered CDR release- finds the disc presented in a clear slip sleeve- this features a stick with a red coloured border, and inside this is picture of a pair of red, grey, and white trainers- with the person wearing a pair of white ankle socks- so just like Anonymous Masturbaudioum the theme is very fetish based.
We get just two lengthy walls here- and first of these is “I” which finds a blown-out and slightly muffled blend of bass chug ‘n’ clutter, that’s edged with subtones of beaded hiss and barely there metallic snap ‘n’ staple. The ‘wall’ comes in at the twenty eight-minute mark, and when one plays it in a focused and concentrated manner, it feels the whole thing is somehow becoming more sluggish/ slurred, and even at points weathered buffed in its attack- though in reality, I believe it’s very much a set and firm wall. With the whole thing having a nice weight and shoulder bowing quality about its attack.
Next & lastly and we have “II”- this runs at the 30.21 mark. Here we find a more rushing and urgent ‘wall’, it’s built around a rapid-though-muddy bass clutter, this is topped choppy like hack. This track also feels more open, and less oppressive- if that first track was a sluggish subterranean and murky roll, this feels more like a build and compacting giant snowball rolling down a hill, which along the way is gaining snaped skis. Once again when closely play it feels the track is altering- but this time it’s speeding up not slowing, but again this is very much a trick of the ‘wall’….through that said we do definitely get two shifts between the pronounced rattling and seared texturing and the slightly more droning- these occurring at the ten-minute mark, and the other is at the twenty-minute mark.
In finishing Ankle Socks Study I (Toxic Obsession) severs up two decidedly thick, but different ‘walls’ which together highlight a rather yin yang quality. As of writing this review this self-released CDR is still available- if you like to purchase a copy head here, and if it’s something you fancy- do it sooner than later. Roger Batty
