Circle Of Shit - April Fools [ Void Singularity Recordings - 2021]April Fools is just shy of an hours’ worth of droning ‘n’ searing walled noise from this Finish project. The release appears on the UK HNW label Void Singularity Recordings- and it is available as either a CDR or digital download. The CDR comes presented in a jewel case that features a red, black, and white colour scheme- the front cover takes in a photo of two topless and tattooed women enjoy each other tight covered legs and vertical oriental texts- not sure what these have to do with the release title, but it’s passable enough bit of packaging.
Active since 2011 Circle Of Shit, seemingly began life as a more noise/industrial/ experimental venture- through recent releases have seen the project moving onto a more denser/thicker wall sound, and April Fools is very much droning and industrialized walled noise, with a nicely oppressive and head-crushing weighty-ness.
The single track here rolls in at 59.30 mark- and it’s built around a blend of rapid and churning mid-ranged shear, blunt and slight bowed judder, and drone-bound billowing. The shearing has a nice constant feast quality about it, while the judder nicely batters and baying feel- though the most interesting element here is the drone, which nicely shifts from been mysterious to-searing moody, as there are very subtle traces of atmospheric harmonic tone within the drone.
I’ll have to admit I’d felt somewhat underwhelmed by past Circle Of Shit releases I’ve heard, find them a little bland and monotone in their attack. But I must a say I was more than pleasantly surprised by April Fools- as there is depth and suck to this wall. The label still has copies of the CDR left, and if you’d like to purchase one direct from here Roger Batty
