Placenta Lyposuction & Graveyard Aura - Necropolis [Gates Of Hypnos - 2021]Necropolis is a single hour long wall noise collab between Croatian based Placenta Lyposuction, Canadian project Graveyard Aura. And fitting its title we find 60 minutes worth of churning ‘n’ crunching wall-craft, which very much brings to mind something big slowly, but surely worming its way through a mass of skull, bones, burial stones & grey rancid dirt. The release is a digital download on Poland’s Gates Of Hypnos- with its cover taking in a monochrome picture of a decaying building set in a jagged rock face. So simple, but effective presentation for a digital download album.
The ‘wall’ kicks straight in dense and battering. It brings together a constantly rolling-yet-murky billow ‘n’ drone, with rapidly crunching ‘n’ snapping tones. These tones are fed out into a thick matt of sound, which is both raging-yet-subterranean tunnelling in its attack. The whole thing remains fairly firm, set and simple in its attack – but the way the textures are blended, create some nicely effective sonic illusion within the ‘wall’- which of course keeps you held into the whole thing. With the track the pair certainly do manage to create a grim bone grinding and churning coffin dusty vibe, which of course nicely fit’s the theme/ title of the whole thing. With the ‘wall’ working well as both effective raging grim background sound, or as more focused wall playing.
Necropolis certainly isn't re-writing or challenging of the wall-noise rule book, and none of the textures are that creative or new. But as brutal, and semi atmospheric wall matter it’s good enough. Roger Batty
