Vomir - Blowderization [Abhorrent A.D - 2020]Blowderization is a recent example of searing 'n' crude wall-craft from one master of the form Vomir-aka sometimes black bag wearing French Romain Perrot. The release comes in the form of a C40/ digital download, which offers up two equally nasty and ear roasting examples of the walled noise form. The release appeared in December of last year on Austin Texas-based noise label Abhorrent A.D. The physical edition of the release is sadly all sold out now, though it’s certainly worth trying to track one down if you’re a wall-collector. The pure black case features laser engraved project name/ release title. And inside we get a double-sided J card sleeve, which features grey text & black like textures on a black background. With the tape, it’s self having grey/ white screen-printed bag like textures. This was ltd to 50 copies, there was also a version of the release with a long-sleeved Vomir shirt- but again these are all gone. All told a classy looking release.
Both tracks are untitled, both are spot on the twenty-minute mark, and both are as unforgiving as you’d hope. So the first track is built around a blend of choppy & clatteringly wet low end, rushing-to-ripping mid-ranged static, with slightly muffled/ distant drone just present. The ‘wall’ feels akin to been sat in the almost pitch-black darkness of a Victorian sewage system- as a constant rush of foul-smelling water, clumpy with tarry shit & thick weaves of toilet roll pelt down on both your numb head and battered shoulders. The textures are run together in an ultra seared & stark fashion, with Perrot stripping the tones of all their warmth, depth, and soothing edges. So the ‘wall’ spurts, then batters, then rips into ones head with it’s truly nasty & constant flow.
The other track is maybe not quite as bone-chilling in its lashing attack- but it’s close. Here we find a mixture of tightly weaved choppy low-end rush, rapid sputtering churn, and roasting pour. These textures are bound together in a keener & flattered mass, and if we’re following on with the other tracks description- now you’ve been blown ‘n battered further into the dank & stinking sewage system- your lying half-conscious on one side, as the seeming more rapid & rancid water lashes you now total bare & battered skin frame. Perrot nicely compresses & flattens the ‘walls’ textures in an appealing battering manner- sure it’s not as nasty & crude as the first side, but it does seem to hook onto your more, really getting locked into your brain over its runtime, and when it finally stops the more quiet world around you sudden rushes & jumps in.
Vomir’s sonic mission statement still remains the same after all these years, he’s never sold out & hopefully never will. If you want truly unrelenting, total un-soothing, and nastily crude wall-craft- you’ll find that in spades with Blowderization. So another sonic brick in the total uncompromising walled noise discog, of this most extreme of artists. Roger Batty
