Otto Von Schirach - Maxipad Detention [Ipecac Records - 2006]Otto Von Schirach music has always been about dada, sinister cartoon, digital overload of sound. It makes one feel as if they're stuck inside a audio pinball machine, been bounced back and forth at a blistering speed. In the past I’ve found his stuff too overloading, sure it was clever. But to listening to, it was'nt much fun. But with Maxipad Detention, he seems to have slowed the hectic pace enough, to discern tunes and interesting bits of sound, and as a result this is an enjoyable, if still a bit exhilarating experiences. He melts in with hyper beat bashing, twisted dance elements, strange dialogue samples, ethnic music, shards of metal music, creepy crawly ambience sips, and lots more aside, making perfect sense been on Mike Patton's label. You will move from been amused, amazed, very puzzled to gross out. Tracks that suck out to me where: Cantaloupe Syphilis Gravy which mixes speeded up electronic version of traditional Russian music, a side order of odd sounds, and a beat that will have your feet twitching, in time to it. Strawberry Phlegm is stretched metal riffing over burps and electronically bent vocals. Denominize Decibel mixes town parade drumming, sinister deformed funk and altered brass band hits. You can almost see a parade of animal and people making there way though streets lined by melted into each other buildings, all the parade humans wear animal heads and all the animals wear human heads. So put on your odd head on and though your music logic out the window, strap your self into the chair to limit twitching and get ready for Otto.
