Feu Thérèse - Feu Thérèse [Constellation - 2006]Feu Thérèse debut album mixes experimental rock with elements of musique concrete, noise and sound art in an interesting and enjoyable manner. The first track Ferrari En Feu, begins with a electronic drone and fazer like electronics are introduced under the sound of storms, the electronics seems to cut wonderful odd sound shapes. Half way through, we drop into happy go lucky organ feed rock, that has more than a whiff of indie to it, with added guitar psychedelics which bring to mind early Pink Floyd. Tu n’avais qu’une oreille ,mixes lullying French singing and hypnotic drumming, over which they add all sorts of effects and guitar stretches and sound elements. Ce N’est Pas Les Jardins Du Luxembourg uses alien water like electronics, seagull chatter and other bird sounds to eerier effect. Building up an wonderful strange collage of sound, that seems to suggest a strange landscape where, birds stretch and morph into the sea and seething jagged cliffs. At about the 5 minute mark a harpsichord like synth comes in, along with tribal drumming. The bird sounds are still evident though, as more percussion and instrumentation layers are added, with a slight oddly jazzy air, but still maintaining the displaced air, later on moaning/ snoring sounds make there way into the mix. The few last minutes, we are just left with the bird sounds and the odd moaning/ snoring, giving a wonderfully odd end to the album. So all in all an intriguing and interesting mix, that will appeal to fans of experimental rock and sound art, and surreal sound tapestry, mixing both side of their sound in effortless and balanced way.
