Le Bambole DI Velluto - Size 36 [Ominous Recordings - 2017]Size 36 is from early March this year- it presents the listener with two side long slices of bothersome-yet-moorish HNW, that blends choking bass weight & detailed choppy-ness. Fitting it’s title the physical version of the release comes as a C36 tape- and as of this review, there are copies still available at Ominous Recordings. Le Bambole DI Velluto is one of the more straight-forward walled noise projects of Swiss based Antonino Stia- who will be known to followers of the more fetish-themed side of wall noise, for his legs & tights project Anonymous Masturbaudioum. This release follows through with the fetishistic side of things, as it’s themed around size 36 female shoe size( around a 6 in the Uk)- and the tape comes wrapped in a single white sports sock- size 36.
I know there is not an awful lot of love in the wider scene for more female feet themed wall-matter, and if that’s the case with you…then do try to misstep your feelings for this sub-genre; as Size 36 is pretty damn great.
First up we have “Size 36- Right”. The wall sees the bringing together of a meaty cluttering, a tight wrap of thinner chopping & snapping textures, and the occasional shifting insect-like subtones. Together these create a ‘wall’ that's splendidly taut in it’s muffled- yet blunt grip. As well as the attention-grabbing & holding meaty-ness'; the thinner tones add a complex-yet- appealing texturally map to the proceedings
Flipping the tape over us have “Size 36- Left”. Here we have a blend of even more muffled & meaty low end, which has a grinding ‘n’ churning feel about it- this is edged with a thick weave of smaller snapping & winkled textures. This ‘wall’ really feels like it's weighing down on you in a most crashing manner- yet once again the smaller details suck you & keep you held there with their subtly detail.
Size 36 is another masterful example of ‘wall-craft' from Antonino Stia, and if you do dislike fetish themed wall-craft, do try to sidestep your prejudice- as if you don’t you will be missing out on a very quality bound wall-noise release. Roger Batty
