Death-Scort Service - Death-Scort Service(DVD) [Gator Blade/ Sleaze box - 2016]From 2015 Death-Scort Service is sleaze saturated & tourniquet tight slasher, which revels in near non-stop leering shots of female flesh, an often queasy atmosphere, and some truly grueling moments of torture/ mutilation. Here from Gator Blade/ Sleaze box is region 1 DVDR of the film. From its opening minutes- to its end credits- the film bombards you either with leering close-ups of naked inked women, violence towards said women, or hacking ‘n’ squirting brutal murder. There really is zero time here to catch your breath, get any real character development, or for even a few lines of dialogue- yet the whole thing manages to keep you held in its unpleasant grip. The film is very much of the cheap & not- so cheerful variety, and really this adds to both the feel sordid degradation & uneasy that is prevalent throughout the pictures 79-minute runtime.
Used throughout the film to good effect is a synth-based score- which moves from angular uneasy, through to pacey Goblin like moments, and stabbing off-kilter. The acting through-out from the mainly female cast is passable, but really they don’t have to do much- as there very much used as either sleazed eye candy, to spray blood over, or drape the cheap but effective enough effects over. On the whole, the direction & pace of the film is most impressive for a z budget movie, as it keeps you held pretty much constantly in its unsettling & perverse grip.
Here & there along the film's length, we get some quite unpleasant & prolonged scenes of sexualized mutilation/ torture. And one of the most unsettling of these comes with a lengthy & all bared barbwire wrapped baseball rape- which had me winching/ looking away from the screen. There are also the odd touches of more eerier/ unsettling moments too- with the whispering, black glove wearing, and generally creepy killer- which has more than a hint of Gallio in it's make-up; though of course with a healthy dollop of US sleaze
I guess on the negative side of things- there really is not much substance/ depth to the film, it truly is just what you're expecting i.e. flesh, sleazy, & torture- meaning I can’t really see my self-returning to it again. Though as bleak & nastily nihilistic one watch it works well.
If you're on the look-out for a tense & extremely sordid modern slasher then I’d say Death-Scort Service will be for you. But please be warned this one really does have a very grimy, misogynistic, and unpleasant vibe running right through it's core. Roger Batty
