Labbra Di Lurido Blu / Rien - Blue Vocem [Ominous Recordings - 2016]Blue Vocem offers up two thirty minute slices of walled noise from these two euro projects. As the releases title suggest the theme here is the colour blue and in particular blue noise- this is a high-frequency of white noise, which with each successive octave increases by three decibels. Fitting the theme of the release the tape its self features a see-through blue shell. And this comes a blue tinged single sided sleeve, which takes in overlaid pictures of a female face. The physical version of the release came in an edition of twenty copies, and as of this review the label still has six copies left.
The first side of tape is taken up by Labbra Di Lurido Blu(Lurid Blue Lips)- which is one of the projects of Swiss based noise maker Anto, who is most know for his nylon fetish based & often creative walled-noise project Anonymous Masturbaudioum. The track here is entitled “Monocromatico Blu #1”- it's centred around a set rocket engine like roast, that’s surrounded by a selection thinner snapping ‘n’ splintering patterns. The whole thing is set in a very constricting & extremely taut fashion, which creates this iron like grip on one concentration. The whole thing stays firm, and pretty much unwavering in it’s attack- through in the last few minutes both elements pitch & pattern lay-out did seem to shift slightly.
Flipping over to the second side, and we have a track from Rien- which is one of the projects of Stockholm based Johan Strömvalll Hammarstedt- whose behind projects such as Gamiani & J S H, as well as running Ominous Recordings that put out this release. The track here is entitled “BlueOne”- this begins with a blend of two rocket roaring like textures- one is set & focused dead ahead, and the other is a blend of circling & sudden often pattern juddering. The whole thing has quite a nice unbalance effect to it- as your ears try to keep focused on the set line of roar, but keep getting deviated by the other textures. At around the ninth minute the more wayward roast seems to get even more misbehaving- as it seemingly takes on sudden sustained sprayings, meshed shakings, and other deviations. At around the mid-way point the wayward element departs, and at the same-time we start get a shift in the remaining element – as it moves into a blends of hacking ‘n’ sudden spurting patter-nation. A bit latter on we get the secondly element returning again, and this is a blend hacking ‘n’ juddering texturing.
So in conclusion the concept & theme of colour is an interesting one for walled noise, and makes for a change from the more normal/ expected themes of the genre. I must say I enjoy both sides of tape equally, as each has its own take on get engulfed by rushing & roasting sways of pure blue noise.
