Official Music Team - Sonkillage Vol3 [kovoroxsound - 2016]

Here we have  the third volume in the Sonkillage Series, and once again it’s another wacky & decidedly retro focused release bringing together a selection of eighteen tracks that mix together sonic collages, loops & lo-fi electronica into a heady & quirky brew. And I must say this release is carrying on the quality, variedness, and appeal of the last vol in the series.

As with the other two releases this CDR once again appears on Kovoroxsound- which is the long term label of Scottish noise maker & sonic experimentalist Lea Cummings( of Kylie Minoise, and many other projects). The album artwork doesn’t detail who is involved with the project, but I strongly suspect it’s Mr Cummings & buddies.

This time around the proceedings start off in quite a taut & moody fashion with the track “Son Of Man”- this opens with what appears to be a interview sample of a prison inmate been asked who is after 20 years of incantation. It sounds like it could be a interview with Manson or similar, and after the sample plays out bare, it loops again with a stabbing elector element on top.  Following this the tracks move from bright & tacky kids ad jingle that’s edged with all manner of cartoon like sounds. Onto  mixes of America family chatter over pulse & sinister synth loop. Though to buoyant & bright trumpeting oriental jingle, that’s stretched & bent by noise sways.  Though to  bare bones interview samples with Anton Lavey's daughter talking about the curse on Jane Mansfield, that later gets added on top of it a tolling & hazed blend of  80’s electronica & bright droning guitar simmer. And beyond

In conclusion Sonkillage Vol3  is another fun, memorable & varied release from the Official Music Team project. If you enjoy sample based  retro quirkiness with elements of mangle easy listening & lo-fi beats ‘n’ electronics blended in- this will be right up your street…here’s looking forward to Vol 4!
