Neighbor's Nightshade - To Heat The Flesh [Torga Amun - 2015]Neighbor's Nightshade is one of the more recent wall- noise projects of Gloversville, New York based noise-maker Ryen Barber(Hearse Fetish,Tomb of Trinkets & Lurid Hallway). To Heat The Flesh is pro CDR release on Russian based noise label Torga Amun- it features a single 40 minute track. The release came in an edition of 15 copies, and features a pro labelled CDR. This comes in a clear slip sleeve, which features doubled sided artwork, taking in quite surreal collage artwork taking in female faces & bodies. The track featured here is built around the following elements: A slowly churning weave of billowing ‘n’ smearing static. A thinner & circling scraping pattern. And sweeps of muffled & swirling judder. Together these elements are brought together to create a cozily searing & fairly layer detailed slice of wall-craft. In the second half we get an extra layer of churning & more pronounced static grain added to the ‘wall’, but otherwise things remain fairly fixed- through there is some layer shift going on from time to time. On the whole it’s a worthy enough bit of HNW, with Ryne selecting some fairly original textural elements to make up the tracks mass. It’s good to see Ryen putting out some new work again, as it’s been a few years since I’d heard anything from him. All in all this is a satisfying enough mid length slice of wall-craft, and I looking forwarding to hearing what the project & Ryen do in the near future Roger Batty
