Venta Protesix - Anni Di Masturbazione [AD AAD AT - 2015]Italian noiser Venta Protesix sees a 20 track compilation from AD AAD AT in Anni Di Masturbazione. Armed with only a laptop and a bombastic mission statement, VP aims to take the noise world by storm. Whether he completes this mission or not is definitely up to the individual listener, but the career spanning tracks contained on Anni Di Masturbazione should give a good indication of Venta's output. As I'm sure I've said plenty of times over the years, noise is highly subjective. I prefer dynamic, harsh, analog sounds, so I don't get down with HNW or glitchy computer noise. Venta Protesix falls into the latter category, so I feel that my assessment of his work is biased, and I should clear the air before going any further. Spastic loops chaotically pasted together seems to be Venta's M.O., and it really keeps each track from feeling like it's thought out and on purpose. Then again, claiming to play "bruitist stochasticism" backs up this randomness. And, to be honest, if that's the goal, I admire it, but it's not for me. I like projects that are part of the performer, and show their control and skill with their gear. Again, not to say that VP doesn't have skill, I just can't evaluate this style objectively. With that, I could go on about the negatives I feel plague this album, but that isn't productive, especially since I'm being honest with my ignorance. I will, though, state that there are some cool, destructed Atari sounds that pop up every so often. These sounds made me flash back to playing Superman in my youth, and that brought a smile to my face. Outside of that, I really didn't find much to smile about with this album. Venta Protesix's Anni Di Masturbazione showcases 7 years of his glitched out laptop noise. If you're into chaotic glitches, check it out! If you're into more traditional noise, I would recommend staying away. But, the beauty of this world is there is enough from for any and all forms of noise, so let us all get along and listen to what we enjoy. Paul Casey
