Vomir - Black Bag [Signora Ward Records - 2015]Black Bag is the latest slice of hopelessly dense, pummelling, and total unforgiving walled noise from the French king of the scene Vomir. The release comes in around the hour mark, and takes into two tracks. It appeared late June 2015, in two editions- c60 ltd to 70 copies(which is now sold out) & a digital download- I’m reviewing the digital version of the release. Fitting Vomir’s normal naming policy both tracks here are untitled, and each track is an intense journey into ultra thick, total unrelenting & unmoving HNW. The first track brings together a lose & churning muddy low-end tone, which is mixed with a more chalky judder- these tones are set together in a fixed, nasty, and continual matt of crude walled sonic’s. I guess if one was trying to describe the ‘walls’ sound I’d say it’s akin to a huge & aged cerement mixer churning round & round raw thick sewage. Track two brings together an rumbling ‘n’ roaring low end descent, which is crudely weaved with jittering & juddering sub tones. This track feels a slight less muddy & more rapid than the first track; through it’s still very crude & nasty in it’s attack. And once again it completely unmoving in its feel. Of the two tracks here I’d say I enjoy the first most due to it’s muddy ‘n’ churning attack- though that said the second track is still effective, and makes for a satisfying more rapid battering after the sewage wrapped churn of the first track. All told this is another fairly typical though no less satisfying release from Vomir, and it’s great to see this master of the walled noise form still create rewarding work after been in the scene so many years.
