Heavy Metal Vomit Party - Long Cold Winter Of Fire And Ice And Cliches But L [Altar of Waste - 2014]

Heavy Metal Vomit Party take classic 1980’s hair/glam metal fare, and convert it into a dense, searing, truly overloaded & intense walled noise. For this CDR release, on Minneapolis based Altar of Waste, the project utilizes a tape copy of US glam metal band Cinderella’s 1988 album Long Cold Winter, to create four slices of densely roast & slightly psychedelically seared walled noise.

Heavy Metal Vomit Party is one of the projects of Santa Fe based  noise-maker Joe the Stache (of Hoggle, Extreme Chafing, ect). Seemingly it started around 2012, and has so far put out six releases that take in CDR's, splits & a tape release.

Each of the four tracks on offer here lasts between six & ten mintues, and really you can’t make out any traces of the original tracks, as Joe has melted ‘n’ distorted them into something completely new & extremely intense. Each of the four tracks presents a exceptionally dense & overloading mass of HNW textures, which are feed out into a searing & swirling wash of sound. From time to time you can make out textural shapes coming out of the ‘wall’, but mainly the focus in on very thick & truly unrelenting matts of sound. Tonally the ‘walls’ mainly conist of a mixture lower-to-mid range, with the odd semi high swirls appearing from time-to-time.

On my first few plays through all four tracks seemed fairly samey in both their make-up & structure, but as I’ve played the release back more I’ve started to pick out different psychedelic seared sweeps with-in the overloaded mass of sound, & subtle variation from track to track- this of course makes the whole thing worthy of repeat plays.

So if you enjoy extremely dense & overloaded walled noise with slightly psychedelic  tendencies Long Cold Winter Of Fire And Ice And Cliches But Lacking Black Metal is well worth a look, and as of writing this review AOW still have copies of this left.
