Dead Body Collection - This Is The Hell That You Created For Me [Quagga Curious Sounds - 2012]

“This Is The Hell That You Created For Me” is  a slice of building-then-receding walled noise from this highly prolific Serbian project.

The 3inc CDR is rubber stamped with the letters D,B,C, and a picture of skull. It comes in a clear zip lock bag, which features a grim grey paper inlay that’s stuck onto a piece of white foam rubber. The bag grimly & ghoulishly also includes a shard of glass that’s smeared with blood & some human hair.

The single track on offer here comes at the 17.27 mark. The track opens with a selection of circling billowing ‘n’ jittering textures that are slightly out of sink, to begin with these textures seem be at a distance, but in time they rapidly get closer & more brutal.  With in a few minutes the tones are at full intensity & they bring together: a cluttering tipped judder, a billowing roaring bass lined roast, & an intense jittering.  By around the 6th minute the textures start to die back & distance themselves again,  and they also seem to spin apart again like at the start of the track. With-in a few minutes of this distancing feel the  ‘wall’ starts to build back up to body juddering insanity again. In it’s last few minutes the track textures start to separate & die back once again.

I can certainly appreciate what DBC is trying to do here with the building then receding feel of the ‘wall’,  and it’s all executed effectively enough. But to me it all felt more than a little frustrating, as the more intense/ thick moments do not stay around long enough for my liking, and the tones often seem to be in the processes of either receding or building. This release is another example of DBC recent attempts to experiment with the HNW form which is commendable, but for me it sadly just didn’t work
