Void Sacrifice - Issue one(fanzine) [Void Seance - 2012]Void Sacrifice is a mainly HNW based fanzine, and this first issue was published in early 2012 in a edition of a hundred copies. The zines put togeather by Richmond, Virginia based Evan Craig- whose behind the great ‘n’ inventive HNW project Ritual Stance, & also runs HNW/ power electronics label Void Seance. The Zine is 14 pages long, and it's printed with black ink on thickish yellow paper stock. The lay-out is quite open & spread out giving it a sort of lo-fi art zine type feel. This first edition focuses purely on interviews/ gear talk, and in all five projects are covered in it. Opening up the issue we have a two page interview with Texas based HNW act White Gimp Mask. The interview is spread over two pages- one page taking in picture/ brief text mix, and the second page taking in the interviews text. It’s interesting to read an interview with this project, as he’s not really done any in the past. Over the next two pages we have an interview with Kevin Salyers of Power Electronics/ Noise/ HNW label Water power- this is interview is ok, but it deviates a bit from the HNW focus. After this we have the highlight of this issue- a four page gear talk interview with Vomir. The piece is a mixture of text & gear pictures, and it gives a really nice insight to how this French master of the HNW form creates his dense, totally unforgiving, & crude walled noise constructions. On the next two pages we have another gear talk interview- this time it’s with HNW sound originator The Rita. This piece is fairly short, featuring just one picture & six short questions/ answers. Finishing off this first issue we have a two page interview with Texas Noise/ HNW legend Richard Ramirez. Again this is another short, but interesting interview. It’s always great to see more coverage of the HNW scene anywhere, and especially in a fanzine form. This first issue of the Void Sacrifice certainly shows real promise for the future, and I very much look forward to seeing what Mr Craig does in future issues. Roger Batty
