Vomir/Werewolf Jerusalem - Split 7inch [AnarchoFreaksProductions - 2011]This 7inch split brings together a track a piece from two of the most known & recognisable names in the HNW genre- Black bag wearing French master of crusty ‘n’ crude noise Vomir. And atmospheric textured noise/HNW project Werewolf Jerusalem, which is one of the most known projects of highly prolific & multi project linked Texas based noise artist Richard Ramirez. The vinyl comes in a grey card sleeve that features simple yet effective black screen printed art, with an image for each artists track on either side of the sleeve- Vomir’s picture is a going-into-darkness picture of ether a fence or wall. And Werewolf Jerusalems features a grim picture of semi demolished house. Side A is taken up by an untitled track by Vomir, and it’s a nice prime slice of sludge, crude & violent noise from the French man. The tracks built around a rolling ‘n’ meaty mid paced boring judder, which is over-road by a tighter & slightly higher pitched jitter. The rolling ‘n’ meaty judder conjures up subterranean like pipe droning with a nicely dark/ enclosing undercurret. All told it’s a great short slice of nastiness from Vomir Over onto Side B, and we have a track called “Premature Burial” from Werewolf Jerusalem . This track is built around a roaring/ cavernous toned drone that’s ripped 'n’ torn over by a mixture of jittering cable noise tonality & an alternating billowing like rip. The alternating billowing cleverly boars into the stereo channels each time it appears in a most darkly magic manner. To me the track brings to mind a faceless & shadowy figure slow stalking a wounded victim through a stark winter forest. In it’s last few minutes the track constricts to a more hissing ‘n’ juddering type vibe…maybe this could indicated that the prey is now captured. All told is a very rewarding & cleverly executed slice of moody & edgy walled noise from the Werewolf Jerusalem project. So to sum up this 7 inch offers up two great & highly effective slices of walled noise- the Vomir track with it’s grim sludgy nastiness & the Werewolf Jerusalem track with it’s clever & edgy murderous vibe setting vibe. This would be a great introduction to those who are new to the genre, but it’s also a very worthy edition to those already hook on the scenes brutal yet enchanting charms. Roger Batty
