Vomir - Untitled(Infinity series Part 14) [Sweet Solitude - 2011]

This is yet another “Untitled” release from the French black bag wearing king of crusty ‘n’ crude walled noise, but this disc is somewhat of departure from Vomir's normally thick ‘n’ tight take on  wall making. The CDR features a single just over eighteen minute track that moves towards a looser, textured & tonally separated take on HNW, you can clearly hear nod towards ANW territory….but this  track is still a little taut ‘n’ fixed to really go fully under that bracket.

This is the 14th release in the Infinity series- an open ended and identical artwork based collection of releases put out by Uk based Sweet Solitude label. Each volume sees a different worldwide HNW act attempting ambient and experimental forms of walled noise.

The track on offer here is built around two, or possibly three main noise tones- first off we have a chopping, juddering & descending mid to lower tone at the front of the ‘wall’, behind this we have a thinner rattling & scraping tone that circles out this almost eerier textural busyness- at times this second tone brought to mind a repetive recording of possible ropes or cables at sea or on across cold barren plains. The (possible) third texture is a more juddering ‘n’ throbbing lower tone that’s following the path of the first tone. From time to time the front tone sounds  as if it might slow & break-up, yet it never does & the scratching tone remains fairly fixed through-out too.  There’s a nice nervous  'n' grim feel to the ‘wall’, with a little bit of separation & a small but effective sonic air between the two/ three tones.

All told it’s a rewarding, and fairly different sounding ‘wall’ from Vomir….sure this is still fairly enclosing & crude in it’s feel, but there’s a nice feeling of edgy tonally space here. It would certainly be interesting to hear Vomir investigating this take on his HNW a little further.
