Venta Protesix - Painful Sexual Perversion [Lips Infection - 2010]Lips Infection is the Italian label helmed by Italo Belladonna aka Venta Protesix, spewing out what he himself classes as ‘Digital Perverse Noise’ and judging from the imagery and track titles taken from this disturbed little 7”, he is not far off the mark! The release has been mastered by James Plotkin (Khanate, O.L.D, Khlyst) and the two pieces of flipped out computer racket and fragmented noise bursts are, on one side, absolutely without remorse or artistic endeavour, but on the flipside, so in your face and out and out ridiculous that you can’t help but admire what has been created. Nothing is to be taken seriously with this release, bringing to mind the punk aesthetic of getting right up peoples nose and clearly not giving a fuck what anyone thinks. Complete shock value accompanied by what can only be described as random blips and general discordant tones, layered with more of the same. Rising pulses of residual mess, patched together and then demolished some more, the feeling that these pieces were something quite beautiful in a former life pervades throughout, but in Belladonna’s hands, they have been twisted, mutilated and deformed until all we are left with is the hollow, gibbering corpse. .
Housed in a full colour sleeve with the vinyl itself flesh pink, no expense has been spared with the overall package, bringing on board Plotkin to add more weight to the release only serves to back up his sure-fire conviction and faith in his releases. It was a struggle working out which side was which; having to resort to finding the inscriptions round the edge of the vinyl due to the blank white centre labels, putting the idea across that it really did not matter anyway. Sequential bleeps rising in speed kick off the first side, cutting in and out between scenes like some child impatiently flipping channels on the TV; giving way briefly to show the listener glimpses of what once was, before Venta Protesix got his hands on it. ‘Excessive Vaginal Wetness’ delivers more of the same, obnoxious, dissociated snippets of recycle bin worthy audio bursts, sounding somewhere between a dot matrix printer on acid and a TV being launched down some stairs.
Sounds so far like I am slating this release, but this is not the case, the release made me question myself as well as what Belladonna was ultimately trying to achieve, which in itself is an interesting result. Nothingness resulting in profound insight which in turn provides a cathartic and disassociated state of being…a kind of being in which Venta Protesix thrives in. All of this makes his perverse listening advice all the more potent; ‘Please play this disease loud while having extreme sex with your partner or while masturbating in the dark of your little room downloading warped pornography from the internet.’ Lovely. 5/5 (or 0/5 whichever way you look at it) Todd Robinson
