Vomir - Je Me Retire De Moi [Suprematist Records - 2010]"Je Me Retire De Moi" (meaning roughly in english I withdrawn from myself) is a fine title for this isolating and enclosing piece of Harsh wall matter from one of the most know and praised exponents of the form French one man project Vomir. On offer here is a just over twelve minutes worth of Vomir’s distinctively crusty ‘n’ cruel wall-making. The tracks based around two main and fairly rapid tones; firstly we have a constant droning chug ‘n’ hack, then secondly we have a second jittering yet set and locked noise tone- both of these elements are fed into each other to cause this great and seemly shifting and almost oscillating ‘wall’ of sound. But in reality the ‘wall’ is just staying locked in the same place through out, which of course is the sign of a great piece of HNW that you’ll want to return to again and again. Sure this is a little on the short side at just over the twelve minute mark, but you could easily stick this on repeat and in theory have an endless wall of sound. The releases slip case is nicely glossy and grimly black ’n’ white featuring a picture of the backs of two (almost) identity male heads - you can either see this picture as two different people, and this points towards when we’re more than one we lose our identity and somehow lessen ourselves. Or you can take the picture as a mirrored image, and this points towards finding purity and wholeness with in ones-self…either way it feeds nicely into Vomir's isolation ethos very well. So the release offers brutal yet entrancing sounds and thought provoking visuals, all of which makes“Je Me Retire De Moi” another very worthwhile chapter in Vomir’s unchanging sonic nihilism.
